America is the land of opportunity.  People have been coming here since the beginning just to take advantage of precisely that.   Filipino laborers in Hawaii"s pineapple and sugar industries are the highest paid in the world,  averaging 140 dollars a day (7,000 Phiilippine pesos).  Not including benefits.  House keepers in hotels make 120 dollars a day,  not including tips,  which are about 40 dollars a day. Many Filipinos work in unionized jobs,  have a trade (such as a plumber,  mechanic,  specialst),  are professionals,  (teachers,  nurses,  doctors,  lawyers),  and work in the service industry,  You name the job,  Filpinos are working there.  They also work as maids,  taxi drivers,  dental hygenists,  receptionists,  groundskeepers,  construction workers,  managers,  in short,  they can do anything.

Waiters and waitresses make at least 100 dollars a day,  somtimes much more in a very busy or fancy bar ,  restaurant,  or nightclub,  plus benefits.  Nurses,  start at 60,000 dollars a year (3million pesos),  while doctors,  lawyers and other professionals much more.  Many Filipinos run care homes which are very lucrative.  The minimum pay in America is 7.50 dollars an hour,  or about 60 dollars a day (3000 pesos).  Most Filipinos work 2 or more jobs.  They send their children to good schools,  believing education is very important. 

In America most people have a chance to succeed.  There are also unemployment benefits,  a welfare system,  and a safety net in place just in case a person gets down on their luck.  There are food banks,  foodstamps,  shelters,  and other government programs to help the needy.  It is not a perfect system,  there are none,  but it works most of the time.  The crushing poverty in most Third World countries is depressing.  All people deserve a better life.  That is why they come to America.  They have a chance to make it.
