The Spanish changed the names of all Filipinos in the 19th century.  This was done to better keep track of all tax paying citizens.  Most Filipinos now have Spanish last names.  The father"s last name is last,  and the mother"s last name is the middle name.

Most first names now are English,  and sometimes, 2 names are used..Example...John Paul.  The most common names are Lopez,  Santos,  Gonzalez,  Fernandez,  all Spanish names.    There are a lot of Chinese and Filipino-Spanish-Chinese last names also.  In Muslim Mindanao,  many Muslims names are used.  Nowadays,  Filipino names are pretty much unique in the whole world.  There are many nicknames that are used in the Philippines.  Usully these are combinations of the last 2 syllables of a persons last name. 

Many Filipina women have beautiful names.  Names such as Lourdes,  Fatima,  and Marissa are enchanting.  That is what makes Filipinos unique.
